Writing to a Module - Tutorial
If you have previously read from a module, the screen in NCS probably looks like this. This is easiest point to begin a write operation from, so after reading from a module, leave NCS open and start the write procedure from here.
To perform write operations, you must be using a profile which supports manipulation. The NCS Dummy profile does this and can be downloaded from here.
Press 'Change Job' and choose 'SG_CODIEREN' from the menu - this is a write job.
At this point, do a couple of checks before you run the job. While read operations are never dangerous to your vehicle, write operations have the potential to be if done incorrectly. Simply check that the module being written to is what you expect (the same module that you read from) and that the job name is 'SG_CODIEREN'. If happy with this, press 'Execute Job'.
While the coding is in progress, the software will read 'coding activ'. The coding should complete within 30 seconds or so.
When finished, the screen will display 'coding ended'. You're all done. Don't worry if the car flashes a warning saying it does not know the time - this is an unavoidable effect of coding some modules such as KOMBI. The time can be easily reset in the computer. Check to see if your new features work. If they don't, the first thing to check is that the modifications to the file have actually been written to the vehicle. To check this, read the relevant module again, open the .TRC file and see if your modification is still there. If not, you have either done the write process incorrectly, or are using a profile which does not support manipulation.
